Claude Code

Claude Code

A terminal agent for the problems that span a dozen files at once.

The read

Claude Code is what people reach for when the change is genuinely hard: a refactor across services, a bug living in the gap between two systems, a feature that has to hold a whole codebase in mind at once. It works in the terminal, and that constraint is the point, because it keeps the model beside your real tools and scripts. It is not the cheapest way to autocomplete a line and does not try to be. Access rides on a subscription rather than a free tier.

Where it shines

  • Holds far more of a codebase in mind than an in-editor assistant
  • Lives in the terminal, so it uses your real tools and scripts
  • Sustains long autonomous stretches without losing the thread

Worth knowing first

  • No standalone free tier, so it needs a subscription from day one
  • Overkill, and overpriced, for single-line completion
